More than a dozen students were injured Friday when a grate collapsed outside the Torah Elementary School in Kensington.

Fire officials say the students fell after a grate collapsed during a class photo shoot outside the Torah Elementary School in Kensington.

"A lot of girls fell on top of me but I just crawled under them and climbed up out of there," said one student.

"It was chaos, everybody crying, scared but everyone was okay in the end," said EMS worker Ari Ciar.

One student suffered a broken leg, but no one was seriously injured.

About a dozen students were taken to Maimonides Medical Center for treatment.

The Department of Buildings says the school will be required to put a fence around the grate and will be issued violations for failure to maintain it.
