Ruben Diaz Jr. was inaugurated Thursday afternoon as the 13th Bronx borough president.

The former assemblyman won a special election last month for the post being vacated by Adolfo Carrion.

He will serve out the rest of Carrion's term, which ends December 31.

"You can rest assured that I am all together committed to fulfilling my promise of a better future for Bronxites everywhere in each and every neighborhood of this prestigious borough," Diaz said. "I know that our diversity is the bedrock upon which our enduring prosperity will come."

Carrion left the position when President Barack Obama tapped him to become director of the White House Office of Urban Affairs.
