More than a dozen New Yorkers got a chance to thank city emergency workers who helped save their lives Tuesday at the FDNY's 15th annual Second Chance Brunch.
The event was held at the FDNY Fire Academy on Randall's Island.
Survivors of cardiac arrest, drowning, and other life-threatening problems reunited with the EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency personnel who responded to help them.
"It's something you think about everyday and it never goes out of your mind, but it's nice to celebrate and be with others who have had the miracle of life and really have had the chance to witness God's hand at work," said Samantha Grande, who's son nearly drowned.
"We do great things all the time, everybody does great things all the time, but when you're recognized that puts a special place in your heart," said EMT David Goodman, who helped save Grande's son. "To actually bring back and see the person, it just brings an overjoy to you that's unexplainable."
Each of the 13 survivors was presented with a certificate and hugs from the emergency workers.
