The Honorable Sonia Sotomayor, a Bronx federal appeals judge who is being considered for a nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court, was among the influential Latina women singled out by El Diario/La Prensa in Manhattan's Upper West Side yesterday.

The paper is the oldest and largest Spanish-language daily newspaper in the city.

Sotomayor told NY1 in an exclusive comment that she was honored to be considered for the nation's highest judicial bench.

"To be named as a potential candidate or potential nominee is an honor. If it were to happen I would be greatly blessed. If it wasn't going to happen, I would be greatly blessed," said Sotomayor. "I think for me what's special is that I've been given the opportunity to experience receiving of so much love from so many people."

Sotomayer currently sits on the U.S. Court of Appeals.

NY1 Noticias executive editor Maritza Puello and Brooklyn-Manhattan-Queens Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez were also honored at the El Diario event.
