Mourners gathered in Brooklyn Saturday for the first of two viewings for a community pastor and gospel singer, the Reverend Timothy Wright.

Wright, 61, died last Friday, nearly a year after being severely injured in a car crash that killed his wife and grandson.

Churchgoers packed the Grace Tabernacle Church at 1745 Pacific Street in Crown Heights.

"Timothy Wright was the link between the community and the church and the reason why is because he even though he was a pastor he was still a person," said mourner Bobby Banks.

"His life was so great and so mass [sic] that there's no reason to be sad," said Timothy Wright Jr., the pastor's son. "He's in a better place with our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. He's with my mom and with his first grandson. And his life should be celebrated."

Sunday's viewing at Grace Tabernacle runs from 1 to 5 p.m.

A life celebration service will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Pilgrim Church at 1338-44 Broadway in Bushwick.

An acclaimed singer, Wright was nominated for two Best Gospel Album Grammys.
