Former New Jersey Nets star Jayson Williams is in the hospital after undergoing a psychiatric evaluation Monday.
Police say he was transported after they were called to his hotel in Battery Park City earlier in the morning.
There reportedly were empty pill bottles in the hotel room. Emergency services officers also reportedly tasered Williams.
The former NBA star has faced a number of problems since retiring in 2000.
He was convicted in 2004 of trying to cover up the shooting death of a driver at his New Jersey mansion, though he was acquitted of aggravated manslaughter charges, and the jury deadlocked on a reckless manslaughter charge.
His wife also filed divorce papers this year claiming he was abusive, cheated on her and had a drug problem.
