Taxi Drivers Protest Senate's MTA Bailout Bill
Taxi drivers and elected officials rallied at City Hall Friday, saying the State Senate's proposed dollar surcharge on cab rides is an unfair burden on New Yorkers and cabbies.
The plan, floated by Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith, would also include a payroll tax and other charges to fund both the cash strapped MTA and upkeep of upstate roads and bridges.
Drivers and advocates say it's unfair to tax New Yorkers and send the money upstate.
