Kids of all ages took in Saturday's summer-like weather by playing some old-school street games at the New York City Parks Department's Street Games event in East Harlem.
Officials say the idea behind it is to introduce these high-tech kids to low-tech, old-school games like hopscotch, stickball, hula hoop, jump rope and skateboarding.
"It's a chance for us to teach our children and grandchildren the games we played growing up in the streets," said Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe.
Parents say at an age where video games and computers occupy so much of their kids' time, it was nice to have a place to go to temporarily escape technology.
"Video games are one of the worst inventions ever," said one parent. "This gets him interacting with other kids and learning to play games the way they should be played, which is with other people."
Hulahooping was a hit with the young and old alike.
"I want to see if I can break a world record," said one youngster.
"I'm 34 and I still like doing it," said another participant.
New York Knicks legend Walt "Clyde" Frazier was on hand to talk to the youngsters about the fun he had playing these games as a child.
"Today is a wonderful time to show them how much fun exercising can be: shooting hoops with the Knicks, and they have a lot of other games going on in the park," said Frazier.
This was the second year the Parks Department organized the event.
