State Senator Daniel Squadron and community leaders in Chinatown renewed a call for red-light cameras Thursday at some of the city's most dangerous intersections.

A new state law approves the installation of 50 more red light cameras at intersections throughout the five boroughs.

Experts say red light cameras work as a deterrent to aggressive driving.

Officials gathered at the corner of the Bowery and Canal Street, a spot they say needs a camera.

"This is one of the most dangerous intersections in the City of New York. Essex and Delancy, Route 9A, across the bridge on Tillery Street. These are intersections that have had too many accidents, too many injuries for too long," said Squadron.

The group says since 1995, 40 people have been hurt and two have been killed trying to cross the intersection of Bowery and Canal.

The Department of Transportation says it welcomes the approval of the extra cameras to increase safety.
