With his campaign in full swing, Mayor Michael Bloomberg has won the endorsement of the Staten Island Republican party.
After joining party leaders at a fundraiser last month, the executive committee decided unanimously to endorse the mayor for a third term.
The Republican support comes even though the mayor is no longer a member of the party. Bloomberg split with the GOP line back in 2007, when he registered as an Independent.
It's the second endorsement for Bloomberg, who already won support from Brooklyn's GOP.
Bloomberg needs to secure at least three of the city's five GOP organizations to secure a spot on the Republican line.
