The family of a man shot and killed by a police officer joined the Reverend Al Sharpton in Harlem on Saturday for the final day of the National Action Network's annual convention.
Off-duty Officer Rafael Lora was convicted Friday of second-degree manslaughter, a charge that carries a maximum 15-year sentence.
Fermin Arzu was driving drunk when Lora confronted the man and apparently got trapped and dragged by the car.
Sharpton and the family intend to call for the maximum penalty when Lora is sentenced on May 15.
Sharpton also called on church leaders to pray for the victims of the Binghamton shooting rampage.
"We must, as a community, stand against this reckless and beastly acts of inhumanity that we are seeing too often," said Sharpton.
The four-day convention is held each year around the anniversary of the assassination of civil right leader Martin Luther King Jr., who was shot and killed outside a Memphis hotel room on April 4, 1968.
