Famed author David McCullough joined protestors Wednesday as they rallied against an 18-story luxury building planned near the base of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Some Brooklynites argue part of the tower would rise above the pedestrian walkway, blocking views of Brooklyn, Manhattan and the East River.

McCullough wrote a book on the landmark's construction and has narrated a movie on the span. He says the bridge is more than a link between two boroughs.

"There's never been anything built by Americans that has evoked, inspired more works of art, more poetry, more memorable scenes in movies, nothing we've ever built has been more photographed than this," said McCullough.

Earlier this year, the local community board and the borough president voted to approve the $150 million project.

The building's developers say opponents are exaggerating the visual impact the tower will have.
