The Department of Transportation says the city is considering moving the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade from Broadway to 6th Avenue, possibly.
It would be the first time the parade has moved in its 84-year history.
One possible reason for the move is Mayor Michael Bloomberg's plan to turn parts of Times Square and Herald Square into pedestrian plazas.
The project, which is set to begin in late May, would shut down vehicle traffic on Broadway from 47th to 42nd streets and again from 35th to 33rd streets.
Crain's New York Business says the city is concerned the balloon ropes could get tied up in the tables, chairs and signs the city plans to install in the plazas.
According to reports, parade organizers are also arguing Broadway is too narrow for the parade balloons.
Reports say local businesses are already protesting the planned move, because the parade is one of their most profitable events.
