The state's junior senator spent Saturday in the Bronx talking with business owners and residents.

Kirsten Gillibrand was joined by Bronx Congressman Joseph Crowley at the Key Food supermarket in Westchester Village for "Congress at your Corner."

They discussed how the state of the economy is affecting local businesses, their employees and the communities they serve.

"For a lot of people, they're buying different foods. I was talking with the guy at the meat counter, he said they tend to buy more ham than turkey. I talked to some of the moms that were shopping and they said they are buying a little less meat," said Gillibrand.

"But some of the families I spoke to said they tend to be buying healthier foods because they don't have the money to buy stuff that's not so good for the kids, the families," continued the senator. "So more fruits and vegetables, more wholesome foods."

Gillibrand will continue to hold these sessions across the state.
