A 16-year-old Queens boy was charged Wednesday with second degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the killing of longtime radio newsman George Weber, who was found stabbed to death over the weekend.

Sources say that John Katehis, pictured above, made statements to police that linked himself to the crime.

"He and Weber met online sometime last week and had arraigned to meet last Wednesday but rescheduled that meeting for Friday evening," said Police Commissioner Ray Kelly.

Sources say Katehis answered Weber's Craigslist advertisement for a partner in rough sex, and was high on cocaine at the time of the incident.

Katehis was taken into custody in upstate New York last night and will be tried as an adult.

"We believe that Katehis was the individual that a neighbor saw on a cell phone in front of Weber's residence on Friday night, and that Weber allowed him into his apartment at approximately 6 p.m.," said Kelly.

The city medical examiner's office says Weber, seen left, had been stabbed about 50 times Friday night.

Police say the cuts on Weber's hands imply that he tried to fight off his attacker.

Kelly said Katehis was taken to Elmhurst Hospital with cuts on his hand on the night of the murder, after a G train conductor saw him bleeding. The teenager was released when he told police that he cut his hands on a bottle.

Police say Katehis fled to Middletown, in upstate Orange County, where he was taken into custody Tuesday night. He was then brought to 76th Precinct in brooklyn.

Police used Weber's e-mail and cell phone records to help track the suspect down.

Katehis has many pictures on his MySpace page where he is shown posing with knives and he describes himself as a fan of "extreme violence," and an "extremist, an anarchist, and a sadomasochist."

Weber's neighbors said they were relieved to hear about the arrest.

"I'm just glad that I can sleep at night and know the guy is not walking around my neighborhood," said one Carroll Gardens resident.

"It is a quiet neighborhood, but at the end of the day, it's New York," said another. "This happens, you know, it's not surprising."

Meanwhile, a candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night outside Weber's home on Henry Street where friends gathered for a memorial toast.

"He loved to laugh, he always made me laugh, he made all of his friends laugh, he was a wonderful fellow," said one friend.
