Police are investigating the death of longtime New York City radio anchor George Weber after he was found stabbed inside his Brooklyn apartment Sunday.

Police say they found Weber, who used to work for WABC, with wounds to the neck in his Carroll Gardens home.

Weber, 47, was part of the WABC morning show "Curtis and Kuby" until February 2008. He stayed on as a freelance anchor for the network.

"Certainly he'd go out there busting his shoes chasing all stories," said radio personality Curtis Sliwa. "Whether it was the geriatric, espresso-sipping, psychotic killers of organized crime who continued to live in that neighborhood or any late-breaking news, you can bet George Weber would be on top of it."

"The day of 9/11, George went running out of the studio soon as we had heard the news and he went running down there to Ground Zero to get the story to talk to the people and broadcast back to all of us," said radio personality Ron Kuby. "In fact, when cell phone use cut out, we were afraid that George had been one of the casualties on 9/11, but he cared about that story, he cared about all his stories."

Weber's final newscast was last Sunday.

Co-workers reportedly called police after becoming concerned that Weber had failed to show up for work. He had last updated the blog on his website on Friday.

"When he didn't show up, our bosses obviously got pretty concerned and then called the police," said ABC correspondent Aaron Katersky.

The Philadelphia native had a lifelong love for radio. On his website he described creating a makeshift station in his parents' basement before going on to a career that would take him from Pennsylvania to California and eventually New York.

No arrests have been made.

Statement from Steve Jones, VP/GM, ABC News Radio:

"We are shocked and deeply saddened by the death of our colleague and friend George Weber who was the victim of what police have deemed a homicide at his home in Brooklyn. An investigation has been launched by NYPD and we have been assisting them. Our condolences and prayers go out to George's family and friends at this very difficult time.
George Weber was a lifelong fan of radio. He was a consummate journalist with a successful radio career in New York at WABC , Los Angeles at KTLK and KMPC, San Francisco at KGO radio and Denver at KOA radio, among others.
While in New York, George was part of the highly successful "Curtis and Kuby" WABC morning show where he remained until early 2008. It was then that he joined ABC News Radio as a freelance anchor. His last newscast was on Sunday, March 15."
