Patrick Bertoletti shoveled nearly 17 corned beef sandwiches into his mouth yesterday in Midtown to win the Stroehmann Sandwich Slam.
Ten hungry competitive eaters devoured corned beef on rye bread sandwiches as fast as they could; Bertoletti, who's from Chicago, ate the most.
He won the top prize – tearing through 16 and three-quarters sandwiches in just 10 minutes.
"It feels great. It's going to feel good until I go into a nitrate coma," said Bertoletti. "But I'm really excited to be here and in New York for St. Patty's Day."
"I knew I was up against top 10 eaters. These guys are the greatest eaters of all time," said another competitor. "So I was just honored to be part of the whole entourage."
Reigning Nathan's hot dog-eating champion Joey Chestnut was also on hand for competition. He's expected to defend the coveted mustard belt on July 4th.
