A woman remains hospitalized, a day after police say she was accidentally shot by an arrow on a Bronx street.

Police say Denise Delgado Brown, 51, of Yonkers was dropping off churchgoers Sunday at an assisted living center on Independence Avenue when she was hit in the stomach by a 30-inch-long arrow.

She was taken to St. Barnabus Hospital, with the arrow still inside lodged inside her.

Her friend says the arrow just came out of the sky.

"We came from church. We don't understand why something like this would happen to someone as sweet as her," said the victim's friend Olga Rivera. "I was in disbelief. I was in the back of the car crying. It's horrible what happened to her."

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Monday that the arrow was a practice arrow and investigators do not believe Brown was the intended target.

"The nature of the victim and how it happened and also the topography, there's a wooded area close by. So that's the investigative assumption, we're not ruling anything out, but that's what we believe at this time," said Kelly.

Friends say Brown will likely remain hospitalized for several days.
