A vigil was held Sunday afternoon to mark the one year anniversary of the deadly crane collapse on Manhattan's East Side.

The vigil will begin at 2:22 p.m. -- the exact time the crane came crashing down on a four-story building, killing seven people.

John Gallego is among the survivors of the incident. He was buried alive after the crane crushed his apartment and spent four hours under the rubble before firefighters dug him out.

"Every time I wake up my legs hurt, every time I want to walk, I have to use a cane. Every time I want to go out, anytime any noise or anything happens, it scares me. I mean I don't have a life no more," said Gallego.

A friend of Gallego who was sleeping in his apartment at the time was killed, along with six construction workers.

Investigators say the crane was not properly secured, and the contractor and a city inspector were later indicted.

In the year since the tragedy, the city has enacted a dozen new laws aimed at increasing construction safety.
