School Drug Counselors May Get Boot

Several hundred school drug counselors may reportedly be on the chopping block.
According to the Daily News, the state has decided to get rid of half of the counselors, some who have been working in the same schools for decades.
The Daily News reports that cutting the workers and hiring outside contractors would save the state $2 million.
The state legislature will have to approve the change.
A spokeswoman from the Department of Education tells the Daily News that the city is opposing the plan and will work with state legislators to try to restore funding for prevention services.
