At least five people were injured after a van crashed into scaffolding in Harlem Saturday.
Fire officials say the gas pedal of a van got stuck and the driver lost control just before 11:30 a.m.
Part of the scaffolding fell, leaving one person pinned underneath.
Officials say five people were injured, including one with serious injuries. The victims were taken to Harlem Hospital.
"I was actually across the street and I thought the car was coming towards me," said witness Daniel Atkins. "So I grabbed somebody and I started running, because I didn't want to get hit, because it didn't look like he was really under control of the car."
Police believe the crash was an accident.
The Department of Buildings says the scaffold was cited last month for not meeting safety code standards.
The company MSS Scaffolding said Saturday that the violations had to due with lighting, not structure.
