As the economy worsens and the City is forced to make difficult financial decisions, the Mayor's approval rating slumps. That doesn't come as a surpise to me; however, I don't think it's something the Mayor should shrug off, as he says he does.
Not one person who called into our show tonight had anything good to say about Mayor Bloomberg, and those who once supported him, no longer do. I think this is something Hizzoner should keep a watchful eye on. And, if he does get that third term he so desperately wants, working to earn back the trust of New Yorkers should be his first priority.
Mayor Bloomberg won the fight on terms limits, but it cost him some popularity points. A new Marist poll found 52 percent of New Yorkers think Bloomberg is doing an excellent or good job. That's his lowest Marist approval rating in four years and a 7-point drop since November.
There is some good news for Hizzoner. The poll found New Yorkers would vote for Bloomberg over the leading Democratic contenders Anthony Weiner, Bill Thompson and Tony Avella.
Are you surprised by the drop in the Mayor's approval rating? Has your opinion of Hizzoner changed in recent months? If so, why? Which candidate will give Bloomberg the strongest challenge in the fall?

MAYOR MIKE WILL HAVE A TOUGH TIME GETTING RE ELECTED. PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER THE WAY HE BULLIED HIS WAY AROUND THE TERM LIMIT THING. UNLESS HE HAS THE ABILITY TO TURN THE LOCAL ECONOMY AROUND, HE WILL NOT BE MAYOR.

I originally supported the mayor but now would not vote for his third term. He continually favors the financial sector and the wealthy and does not fight for the middle class. Look around Manhattan at all the "luxury" apartment towers, all built in his regime! I live in Stuyvesant Town and the mayor was definitely a force in helping Tishman Speyer purchase our complex. I hate to see our city lose the middle class and become a city of rich and poor. The middle class is essential to a healthy society and I think the mayor has missed this lesson. I will give my support to Weiner who seems to recognize the value of encouraging a strong middle class.

In my opinion in these difficult times, we need an independent, honest leader like Mike Bloomberg to get New York moving again. Mike used his business experience to turn the city's economy around after 9/11. by creating jobs and balancing the budget while protecting vital services. He can do it again, if we only give him a chance.

I have not changed my mind Once Mayor Bloomberg changed the term limits he lost me I will never vote for him again. That is for sure .. Mr Weiner or Mr Thompson will do just fine.. this nonsense that Bloomberg is the only one who can run our city is silly.. Time will tell, Also he may not find a line to put his name on.. oh would that be funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no use for this mayor at all and anyone but him would be acceptable with me. Yesterday was a good example when he and the other politicians Just stood their with all the new helmets and vests looking like the same old same faces that we have seen forever and ever., go already. Also they just are in your face and look like they are laughing at us all the time., we are treated like fools, they just keep belittling us over and over again.

The only thing I don't agree with is his immigration policy but was delighted to have the opportunity to have him longer. With the mess we are in we need a businessman more than ever. The problem with NY'ers is we don't like someone to bully us but you know what look at all he has done and get over it.
I worked on his campaign and I got over the immigration differences, you can't have it all BUT with this man we'll get the most for our money. For pete's sake he doesn't even take a salary!!

$75M aint chump change as Mickey Spillane would have opined. This guy's governance proves that a sucker is born every minute. Arrogant, napoleonic, self-made man who wants us to eat cake and has ruined the city with his policies and hes devoid of ideas except how enrich himself and his swell townhouse set. Thanks alot Rudy for your gift.

I don't know who'll unseat the plague that is Emperor bloomberg, but i can't wait until the pompous, wretched, disgusting piece of trash is out of city hall. Not only does he not belong there, he has no place in this city. He's done nothing but make life miserable for the common citizen. Avella or Weiner, I don't care, just so long as bloomy is outta there!

Bloomberg is no picnic, but given the choices out there he is great...

First of all, Mr. Bloomberg is trying to position himself as Dictator or King, not Mayor. It's amazing how he believes he is the only person who can rescue/restore/save/lead the City. I know there are capable people out there; we only need to give one of them the opportunity to serve.
Secondly, he is doing something illegal by running for a third term. Just like A-Rod, he feels he can bypass the rules and expects there not to be any consequences. But, I hope us TRUE NEW YORKERS will not let him get away with this. He should not be rewarded for doing the wrong thing.

I think once Bloomberg starts looking more like the "King" he thinks he is we will see the numbers drop even lower. I am hoping that King Bloomberg and Queen Quinn get what they deserve in the next election...booted out!

I will not be voting for Czar Bloomberg. I'm a firm believer that two terms should be the lifetime limit for any politician. Besides Bloomberg is/was supposed to be a financial genie of sorts. So why didn't he see the coming financial crisis and prepare NYC for it. We should expect that with someone of Bloomberg's financial acumen at the helm NYC should just smoothly sail through the current financial turmoil.

it's great for people to have someone to blame for their current predicament. the fact is, the city was overrun by the super-rich long before Mayor Mike came along. what does the drop in the approval rating really mean? i'd like to know what United States mayor's approval rating hasn't gone down over the last few months. would you like to bring back Giuliani, Koch or Dinkins?

I have always felt that Bloomberg feels that he is more intelligent than everyone else, and when he usurped his opinion for that of the voters a few months ago with the term limits legislation, he confirmed what I always thought of him. It is ridiculous to think that no one but he can run the city. If that were true what would happen when he can't run after next term (should he get elected again). His actions go against the entire democratic process he claims to be a champion of and I for one can't wait for the day he ceases to be Mayor Bloomberg and goes back to being Mike.

I'd guess some of the drop is because of global economic problems, problems he didn't solve and doesn't have the power to fix. Overall I think he is doing well.

YOU ARE WAY TOO IMPRESSED WITH THE MAYOR. WITH BILLIONS, IT'S EASY TO BUY POLL NUMBERS, ELECTIONS, AND NY1 HOSTS. ROCCO.

He's always been an autocrat, but as time passes, he seems less concerned about hiding it. It's as if he feels entitled to power, and any criticism or complaint is seen as a personal insult, a New-York-sized George W. Bush. Granted, he's a lot smarter than Bush, but, really, who isn't?

John,
Only in a deranged mind, can one say that Bloomberg's cutting police, firefighters, hospitals, and education translates into "preserving services for the middle class." He has sadly proven to be the ultimate financial opportunist, Joining, then spitting out political parties as they suit his ambitions (so what party does he belong to today?).
Another thing, he certainly has something personal to gain in this far West Side subway station--just watch. And how has his company managed to grow double-digits since he became mayor? Regarding his self-decided term limit extension, I hope he re-discovers that famous quote by Macchiavelli about "absolute power"...

i think bloomberg should have been done years ago,he's a union buster and doesn't care about working class people,he argues that the city is on a budget but what about the 2 billion dollar donation to the mta to build that rediculous extension of the 7 line hes worse than guilani

Sadly, I supported Bloomberg during his last two campaigns because of his no-nonsense management style and the belief that he truly wanted what was best for this city. I no longer trust him. He flip-flops on everything, including assisting our nonprofit antigun organization - MAG. Instead, he launched his own "MAIG" in 2006 after attending our event in 2005. Shameful!

I would not vote for him again even if he was
the only one running!, why? they may have
had the legal right to do what the did but not
the moral right to overturn what twice the voter's said yes to!!!!.
