After months of speculation, it appears Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion is getting a job in the Obama administration.

Sources tell NY1 that the president will name Carrion as the director of the newly-created White House Office on Urban Policy.

The office will help coordinate programs for housing and public transportation.

The 47-year-old has been borough president since 2002. He's also a former urban planner and city councilman.

Bronx residents told NY1 that his experience in one of the poorest counties in the nation will serve him well.

"We're very proud to have somebody from the community represent us," said one Bronx resident. "We really hope that he does a good job because now that the Bronx is considered one of the poorest counties, we do hope that he represents us."

"Number one, I think, he will help out with the housing problem," said another. "Because, so far, he's done a good job with that."

"He'll know what he's doing," said a third. "Who's going to fill his shoes now?"

The race to succeed Carrion will be decided in a special election in April.

Leading candidates are State Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr. and City Councilman Joel Rivera.

The winner will have to defend the seat in a September primary.
