Zoo officials say the aerial cable car ride is too expensive to maintain, even though it is the zoo's third most popular attraction.

The Skyfari caused some trouble last summer when a malfunction left more than two dozen people stranded 100 feet above zoo animals for hours.

But the zoo says that incident has nothing to do with its decision to close the Skyfari.

The zoo is hoping to replace the ride with an indoor theater that would spray mist or blow air on audiences.
