Two New Yorkers have begun their journey to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest ride through the city's entire subway system.
Matt Ferrisi and Chris Solarz took off at 1:30 p.m. Thursday from the Far Rockaway Mott Avenue station in Queens.
The duo plans to hit all 468 subway stops and arrive at the Rockaway Parkway station in Canarsie, Brooklyn by 11:30 a.m. Friday.
If they do it, the 22-hour trip would beat the current record of 24 hours, 50 minutes set by a group of friends more than two years ago.
"That gives us a little bit of cushion room if anything goes wrong, if we have to take an unexpected bathroom break, if some of the trains are slower than expected," said Solarz.
"We've run the dry runs, we've spent a lot of time on this so I'm hoping everything runs on schedule, mostly," said Ferrisi.
The pair said they've spent months preparing and analyzing possible combinations to figure out the optimal route. They also went to all the subway platforms to practice transfers, draw maps of exits and locate every bathroom.
