A five-alarm fire in Williamsbridge Tuesday injured more than a dozen firefighters and left several people homeless.

The fire started around 9:30 a.m. and tore through two three-story buildings in Williamsbridge.

A total of 20 firefighters suffered minor injuries.

No residents were hurt, but one dog did die in the fire.

One resident lives with his mother, who was at the presidential inauguration at the time.

"I called her, and she said she was at the inauguration. And she sounded so happy, I couldn't say it. I couldn't say it to her over the phone. I was just like, 'come home.'," said one displaced resident.

"It was a lot of people out here. It was very hectic. I got kinda worried, because I didn't know what side of the street it was coming on. And fire does travel," said one witness.

There's no word yet on what may have caused the fire.

The Red Cross is providing temporary shelter and assistance to four of the families.
