A group of MTA employees protested the agency's proposed doomsday budget Thursday.

They encouraged commuters at the Rector Street subway station to voice opposition to the plan during a public hearing scheduled for next Wednesday.

The transit workers said the agency is planning to close more than 100 station booths and accused the MTA of putting dollars ahead of safety.

"Now you want to take those booths out of the system. You gonna take the eyes and ears away from the system. Every where you go they have signs that say 'If you see something say something'. Well if there's nobody there, who's going to see something or say something," said Maurice Jenkins, a transit worker.

"We're not just going to take these cuts and these booth closings without a fight. And we want the public to come out and fight with us," said Marvin Holland, a transit worker.

The MTA has declined to comment on the protest.

The first of a series of public hearings is set for January 14 at the Hilton Hotel in Midtown.
