After being reported missing Monday, neighbors Thursday said the search for Manuella Paulemont ended at 2640 Marion Street where she lived.

On the roof, neighbors said police found a charred and dismembered body believed to be Paulemont.

Her boyfriend, Shadron Rambert, is now in jail charged with violating an order of protection, burglary and criminal contempt.

Residents who knew the couple said Rambert was abusive.

"I was surprised because I didn't know this was going to happen because she told me she had a lot of problems with him and she always come to my house and said she need help," said one neighbor.

The neighbor, who didn't want to be identified, said the couple shared an apartment on 175th Street until a few months ago. She claims Paulemont moved to escape the abuse.

Other former neighbors still can't believe the woman they waved too, and often saw playing with her young son, could die such a brutal death.

"Her baby used to interact with my kids, they used to come outside in the summertime with the baby together, nothing out of the ordinary, nothing that I could be shocked about. So it's surprising to now hear something like this," said Nancy Vega, a former neighbor.

The medical examiner is calling her death a homicide, saying a slash to the neck is what killed her.

Meanwhile, police said Paulemont and Rambert had a four-year-old son. The Administration for Children's Services is not revealing the whereabouts of the child.
