Police are investigating the stabbing of an elderly woman inside her own home Sunday.
Neighbors said the 86-year-old victim's name is Vivian Squires.
Police said a man forced his way into her home at 134th Avenue in Springfield Gardens shortly before 6:30 a.m. and stabbed her several times in the neck and back.
Investigators said the attacker then took off in Squires' tan Chrysler sedan.
Squires is said to be in stable condition at Mary Immaculate Hospital.
She has lived in the neighborhood for decades and residents said they are trying to come to terms with the brutal attack.
"I'm past the point of being shocked," said neighbor Tico Flores Kyle.
"She's been there forever. Much longer than I have; I've been there 20 years. It's a sad thing to see," said Harry Johnson, another neighbor.
"I don't know what to do," said neighbor Johnnie Thompson. "It's unbelievable."
Some neighbors think her attackers must have done their research ahead of time.
"Whoever did it had knowledge of her age and her physical capacities and everything else," said Flores.
Police are still looking for the attacker and have not made any arrests.
