Some of the city's bravest helped usher a new New Yorker into the world Friday.
Members of Engine 74 on the Upper East Side were called to West 89th Street at 2:30 a.m. to find a woman in labor on the bathroom floor.
The baby's head was already visible with the umbilical cord wrapped around its neck.
The firefighters removed the cord and delivered a healthy baby girl.
"Everybody was ecstatic. Most of us are fathers and we know what it's like to have a baby and the father was very concerned," said FDNY Captain Brian Whiston. "It was their first child and it was a nice atmosphere, nice atmosphere. It was rewarding."
The mother and daughter are doing well at Roosevelt Hospital.
