Hot dog eating champion Takeru Kobayashi is back at it -- taking on a new food.
The Japanese eating champ was at Gabrielle's Restaurant on the Upper West Side Friday trying to break the world record in fruitcake-eating.
Kobayashi ate 4.5 pounds of fruitcake in 10 minutes, but came up just shy of the world record.
The event served as a fundraiser benefiting the Food Bank for New York City.
"Events like this help raise awareness, let people know that hunger is everywhere in New York City, in the five boroughs. So this is great support, and it gets people out, appreciating how much they have and wanting to give to others," said Patrick Mooney, Food Bank NYC.
