Governor David Paterson is dismissing calls to quickly make a decision about Hillary Clinton's Senate replacement.
Paterson has been visiting United States troops in Iraq and Afghanistan this week – but that did not stop reporters from asking if he had made his decision.
Some lawmakers, including Mayor Michael Bloomberg, have put pressure on the governor to make up his mind.
In a conference call from Germany on his way back to the U.S., Paterson said he will not be swayed by the pressure.
"The issue really is that we're trying to find the person that would serve in the United States Senate that would best accommodate the diversity and the different regions that comprise the great state of New York, " said Paterson. "And I don't feel rushed by any of this process."
Paterson has repeatedly said he will not name a successor for Clinton until just before she is sworn in as secretary of state.
