Anger over California's gay marriage ban reached across the country Saturday as New Yorkers took to the streets to protest Proposition 8.

Protestors marched from Herald Square to Times Square to speak out against the bill approved by voters in November, which overruled a court decision to legalize gay marriage in California.

The rally was also about gaining the right to marry here in New York.

"It makes me feel good because I'm not the only person who feels this way. It's obvious that other people do to. A lot of other people in New York City especially," said one protester.

"I think a lot of people don't realize that there is 1,324 rights that the LGBT community is missing out on because they do not have the ability to get married. So we have fliers that people are passing out and people that are going to go out and reach out to people face to face. Just to describe what we want to accomplish today," said another protester.

The event was one of several similar demonstrations held around the country Saturday.
