Three men who were found dead in a nursing home in Brooklyn did not appear to have any visible signs of trauma, according to a source close to the murder investigation.
Edubigus Alvarez, 77, 72-year-old Augastine Sandoval, and a 61-year-old man whose identity is still being withheld were all residents of the New Carlton Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Fort Greene.
All three lived on the same floor and were discovered by employees of the facility just after 6 a.m. Thursday.
Police say the circumstances appeared "unusual," but could not provide any additional details. They also say the air quality in the facility was tested and came back as normal.
As the dead men showed no visual trauma, the source said the investigation is currently at a standstill as police await toxicology reports.
"The only thing I have to say is that when people pass away it's very unfortunate," said Lawrence Diamond, who identified himself as the medical director. "That's what happened. People passed away and it's sad for their families and it's sad for the facility. There's no reason to believe anything other than they passed away from natural causes."
In the meantime, the nursing home is still open and functioning normally.
