New School students are demanding the resignation of president Bob Kerrey.
They protested outside the school on Tuesday -- less than a week after Kerrey received an overwhelming no-confidence vote from the university's senior faculty.
That vote stemmed from Kerrey's plan to temporarily serve as provost as well as president.
The students wore tape on their mouths to symbolize their lack of a voice in the University's governance.
"The students have been shut out of all conversations regarding the policy of the university for the last eight years. Bob Kerrey has been ineffective," said one student.
"It's been seven years since he's been here and things have only gotten worse. Tuition has gotten higher, scholarships have gotten lower. We're waiting for real change. So the students have asked him to step down. And if he doesn't step down, we're gonna step up," said another student protestor.
Kerrey said he is meeting with faculty this week to discuss their concerns, and plans to meet with students in January. He also said he no longer plans to serve as an interim provost.
