She's been silent publicly, but Caroline Kennedy is making it clear -- she wants Hillary Clinton's senate seat.

"She told me she is interested in the position, she knows it's not a campaign, but she was talking to other people, because a number of people are interested in the position and that she wants to sit down and talk to me," said Governor David Paterson.

And she's currently on top of Paterson's list. He's told associates her close connections to the incoming president makes her an enticing pick to lobby for federal aid in these lean times, plus serve as a conduit for campaign cash.

Meanwhile, after hemming for days, Kennedy is phoning those with the Governor's ear like her would-be senatorial partner, Chuck Schumer.

"I've talked to Caroline Kennedy and she is clearly interested. Bottom line is that the governor and I talk regularly on this, but we've decided to keep each others council. So that's all I'm going to say about that," said Schumer.

Others, like the Reverend Al Sharpton, who invited her to soul food in Harlem, were also on her call list as was New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

"You know, we seem really lucky in the State of New York to have a lot of really qualified people who have indicated that they would like to be the next United States Senator," said Quinn.

"I think with a name like Kennedy it's a very powerful name and her ability to raise money is probably there as well, but I think there are other names there as well," said Crowley.

"I have a constituent, and I have two members of congress who service my district, all of whom are candidates. And I am very supportive of all of them," said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.

Cuomo, who was married to Kennedy's cousin, spoke favorably of her ambitions.

"I have a very high opinion of Caroline Kennedy. I've known her a long time. In terms of qualifications for this position and selection for this position, that's up to the governor, it's his process. It's his determination and I would leave it at that," said Cuomo.
