Family and friends of a fallen Brooklyn firefighter gathered Saturday for the unveiling of a new street sign in memory of his dedication and life.
The corner of 77th Street and 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights is now known as "Firefighter Joey Graffagnino Place."
Graffagnino grew up nearby and later lived with his wife and kids in the neighborhood.
The 33-year-old died along with fellow firefighter Robert Beddia while battling a fire last August at the former Deutsche Bank building in Lower Manhattan.
"I'm grateful to have had him as a husband and to be the mother of his children. I consider it to be a great honor and the short time we had together will last a lifetime," said Linda Graffagnino.
Investigators determined the fire was started by a discarded cigarette.
As a result, smoking is now prohibited at all city construction sites.
