Investigators were questioning Saturday one of two upstate men who were seen with a Brooklyn woman right before she disappeared from a club earlier in the week.
Police say Laura Garza was last seen walking out of Club Marquee at 4 a.m. Wednesday. The club is located on 10th Avenue and 27th Street in Chelsea, Manhattan.
An NYPD spokesman said investigators suspect foul play and were concerned for Garza's safety.
Neighbors who recently met her in her Bay Ridge apartment building said they were shocked to hear of her disappearance.
"I was actually very, very surprised when I found out that she was missing, being that I had just seen her," said neighbor Adam Akesson.
"She was always friendly, always friendly with me. Pretty much everybody else in the building," said neighbor Roy Avocado. "It's a pretty tight-knit building. People come here, stay for a while. They don't leave, so not a transient building. She was a very nice girl and I'm really sorry to hear about it."
Neighbors say Garza told them she had recently moved to Brooklyn from Texas so she could work in the city, and she was interested in the local club scene.
A Club Marquee spokesperson said in a statement, "Marquee has provided the police with valuable information and footage from its video surveillance system. We will continue to offer any assistance we can to the police as they search for her."
She was last seen with Michael Mele, 23, and another man. Mele's neighbors in Newburg, New York describe him as preppy, with a taste for nice cars and pretty women. They say he owns a nearby Quiznos in Middletown, New York.
Garza is 25 years old, 5'2 and weighs about 120 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.
