Police are set to speak with New York Giants linebacker Antonio Pierce and the doctor who treated receiver Plaxico Burress after a self-inflicted gunshot last week.
Investigators want to know why neither Pierce nor Dr. Josyann Abisaab called police to report the shooting.
Police say after the shooting, Pierce took Burress's gun back to New Jersey in the glove compartment of his Cadillac Escalade.
Investigators have impounded the SUV.
Pierce's lawyer says the linebacker did not know his teammate had a gun until it went off in the club and that Pierce is willing to testify before a grand jury.
In his radio show today, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Burress's prosecution was necessary.
"We are not overreacting. There are too many guns in the streets," he said. "We have the toughest laws on gun control. You carry a loaded goal you go to the slammer for three-and-a-half years. The bottom line is the law should apply to everyone."
At a news conference after yesterdays's practice, Pierce did not address the case.
"If there's any questions about the New York Giants as a team, and going forward and about the Philadelphia Eagles, I will answer," said Pierce. "And again, I repeat myself, I am not answering any questions that contain anything that happened on Saturday."
Abisaab has been suspended by New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Hospital for failing to report the shooting to police.
According to the Daily News, investigators now believe that the doctor was scheduled to work the night of the shooting. It is unclear if she will face criminal charges.
Police said yesterday they first learned of the shooting at the Latin Quarter nightclub at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, when the National Football League called to try to verify the shooting.
Burress faces weapons possession charges and is free on $100,000 bail.
The team suspended him for the rest of the season, but reports say the NFL players association is planning to file a grievance over the move.
Meanwhile, one of the New York Jets is apparently facing legal trouble as well.
The team says defensive end Shaun Ellis was arrested last Saturday after a traffic stop in Hanover, N.J., near the team's practice facility.
Ellis was charged with possession of marijuana, and issued summonses for speeding and driving without insurance.
Ellis is expected to play this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.
