The balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade were inflated by the department store's employees on the Upper West Side.

Buzz Lightyear from Disney's "Toy Story," Dr. Seuss's Horton the Elephant and a Smurf are all making their debuts in this year's parade.

"Where else can you find a five-story Smurf? Pumpkins the size of RVs? I mean, this is Wonderland come to life," said John Piper, the vice president of Macy's Parade Studio.

Two novelty balloons will also be shown, including one of Keith Haring's "Figure With Heart."

The pre-parade event has grown over the years and police estimated tens of thousands of people came to see the event by the American Museum of Natural History.

"I think it's cool to know how they can make them this big," said one child.

"I think my favorite [balloon] would be Buzz Lightyear," said another.

"I brought down Mr. Bear from my classroom," said a third child who was clutching a teddy bear. "He thinks they're very big."

Central Park West is now closed from 59th Street to 86th Street.

Starting at 9 a.m. Thursday, the 82nd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and all of its larger-than-life balloons are starting at Central Park West and 77th, traveling south along the park to Columbus Circle, then following Broadway to Macy's on 34th Street.
