A group of Manhattan protesters called for the resignation of the Suffolk county executive Friday, after the murder of an Ecuadorian immigrant on Long Island was designated a bias attack.

Seven Long Island teens are accused of stabbing Marcelo Lucero to death on November 8.

The protesters, who gathered in Murray Hill, said Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy should resign for using anti-immigrant rhetoric that promotes an environment where bias attacks will occur.

"I think all of this has really festered and really created an environment that has caused what happened a couple of weeks ago, this murder of an innocent, undocumented immigrant,” said Raquel Battista of the Coalition for Immigrant Rights.

“We want [Lucero’s death] to be treated with the severity and respect that it should be treated,” said Natalia Ramirez of the Latino Commission on AIDS. “We want his life to be respected, we want our lives to be respected."

Jeffrey Conroy is being charged with the second-degree murder of Lucero, as well as hate crime, manslaughter and gang assault charges.

NY1 reached out to Levy's office for comment but did not hear back Friday.
