Report Finds Overcrowding On Lexington Avenue Subway Line

Overcrowding on the Lexington Avenue subway lines is leaving straphangers stranded on the platform, according to a report by Manhattan Councilman Daniel Garodnick.
He says more than 400 people can be left on the Number 4, 5, and 6 platforms, even when trains are running on time.
With more than a million passengers using these lines every day, Garodnick says implementing service cuts would be a catastrophe.
"This is a subway line that is at its breaking point," said the councilman. "The Lexington line is so overwhelmed that it becomes unpredictable and unreliable for passengers. It breeds frustration. It causes economic losses from customers who cannot get to their appointments."
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the line is operating at capacity, with only two minutes between trains.
