President-elect Barack Obama has named a New York City native as his attorney general.
Eric Holder, a senior legal advisor to the Obama campaign, was selected by the president-elect to be attorney general.
According to the AP, Obama has asked Senate Republicans whether they would support Holder. One person in the talks reportedly says that the nomination would not be held up.
He would be the first African-American to ever hold the job.
A New York City native, Holder went to Stuyvesant High School and Columbia University, and was a former United States Attorney for the District of Columbia and a senior legal adviser to the Obama presidential campaign.
He was also Janet Reno's top deputy in the Justice Department for four years.
Earlier today, Obama pledged to confront climate change head-on in a surprise taped appearance – his only one of the day.
The president-elect told members of the Bi-Partisan Governors Global Climate Summit in Los Angeles, California, that any governor who is willing to promote clean energy will have a partner in the White House.
"My presidency will mark a new chapter in America's leadership on climate change that will strengthen our security and create millions of new jobs in the process," Obama said. "That will start with a federal cap and trade system. We'll establish strong annual targets that set us on a course to reduce emissions to their 1990 levels by 2020 and reduce them an additional 80 percent by 2050."
Today, Obama is also holding private meetings in Chicago with Vice President-elect Joe Biden.
The First Family is preparing for its move to Washington, D.C., as Malia and Sasha Obama tour the White House with their mother and grandmother and they also check out new schools in the area.
