Family, friends and city officials attended the Saturday funeral of the Long Island man who was stabbed to death last week in what investigators believe was a bias attack.

Funeral services were held last night for Marcello Lucero of Patchogue, who was killed last Saturday.

Charges will be unsealed this week following the indictments of seven teenaged suspects who are accused by police of murdering
the Ecuadorian immigrant because he was Hispanic.

Family members and community leaders alike called on Long Islanders to fight prejudice, vowing to make something positive out of Lucero's death.

"We have to use this time and this senseless crime to bring people together in this country," said Brooklyn-Manhattan Representative Nydia Velazquez.

"Whoever did this, I hope they listen to this and I hope they will learn the lesson," said Jose Jara, Lucero's friend.

Lucero's body is being flown to Ecuador for burial.
