Two men were arrested Saturday morning in connection with an attack on a Staten Island teenager, who said he was targeted because of Barack Obama's election.

Ralph Nicoletti and Bryan Garaventa, both 18, are being held on charges of second-degree assault as a hate crime and weapons possession.

Ali Kamara, 17, said he was beaten by several white men on his way home from a friend's house on Election Night.

Kamara said the men did not use racial slurs, but rather repeated Obama's name during the attack.

Kamara was treated for cuts to his head.

The alleged victim said he wants his wants his attackers to be punished with jail time.

"I don't know about me forgiving them," said Kamara. "They jumped me with a baseball bat. They could have killed me if I was not going to get up and run, they were going to kill me. Whatever the judge feels like doing to them, let them decide. I don't decide what happens to them. Let them decide that."

Kamara said he wanted answers about why he was attacked.

"I would like to be in court to see them and maybe have a word with them and see why they had to jump me," he said. "Because I don't even know them. I want to know why it had to be me."

A friend and neighbor of Nicoletti's says she is not convinced that he is involved.

"I don't believe he would do anything like this," said Kasandra Drew, a friend of one of the alleged attackers. "I mean, he's a good-hearted kid. He's looking to go into the Marines. He's not a bad kid."

Nicoletti and Garaventa are from the Rosebank section of Staten Island.

An NYPD spokesperson said investigators found the suspects "through good detective work" and not as the result of any tips.

The Staten Island district attorney says the teens will not formally appear on the charges until Sunday at the earliest.

Law enforcement sources say police continue to look for other individuals who may have been involved in the accident
