The Reverend Al Sharpton called for a fair investigation into the alleged police sodomizing of Michael Mineo Saturday.

Sharpton spoke at the Harlem headquarters of his National Action Network and said there is not enough attention being paid to the investigation into whether Mineo was assaulted by police.

"Many said, 'Well, you can't call it racism, he's not black.' I don't care if he's black or white, it's about right and wrong," said Sharpton.

Mineo says he was sodomized by police inside a Brooklyn subway station October 15. A grand jury is investigating the matter.

Meanwhile, Sharpton says civil rights activism in New York is more important than ever now that Barack Obama has been elected president.

"We have to help him straighten it out. We’ve got to elect the right Congress, the right council, the right mayor, the right governor. This is the beginning of change," said Sharpton.

Sharpton said he is coordinating a January bus trip to Washington to celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday and Obama's inauguration.
