Visitors to Macy’s in Midtown Manhattan can see the giant crystal ball that helped usher in 2008 in Times Square.
The shimmering ornament is now on display in Herald Square as part of the store’s 100th anniversary celebration.
“The ball behind me has 672 Waterford Crystal triangles, 9,576 Phillip Lexion LEDs and together we can create millions of colors, sort of a kaleidoscope atop the roof at One Times Square or right here today at Macy’s,” said an expert.
While the ball that will usher in 2009 has not yet been unveiled, officials promise it will outshine previous models.
The theme for this New Year’s Eve ball will be "Let There Be Joy" and each panel will have an angel cut into it.
