Police are trying to diffuse rumors that a local gang plans to target women as part of a Halloween night initiation.

Some residents say they expect random violence against women and girls during the Bloods gang initiation tonight.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said there is no evidence to confirm these fears.

"Halloween is the season of rumors,” said Kelly. “We know nothing specific about this threat. We've heard it because people were talking about what's out there, on the internet, but we have no specific information to indicate that there's any validity to this rumor."

Kelly said Halloween is always a night for potential vandalism and police will be on heightened alert.
