A Serbian basketball player accused in the beating of a fellow Binghamton University student will be tried in Serbia instead of the United States.
Miladin Kovacevic, 21, fled to his homeland after being charged with felony assault – following a brawl at an upstate bar that left Bryan Steinhauer of Brooklyn in a coma.
Kovacevic was detained in Serbia on Tuesday. However, an official there says he will not be handed over to the American authorities as requested.
He's being held for at least 30 days pending a formal investigation.
Steinhauer only recently emerged from his coma.
