City, Seseame Street Combine For Kids' Emergency Training

City health officials teamed up with characters from Sesame Street characters Thursday to help teach kids what to do in an emergency.
The blue monster Grover was on hand as a new program called "Let's Get Ready" was introduced at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan's Upper East Side.
Through the use of a DVD and activity books, the program focuses on the importance of having kids memorize information such as their address and telephone number.
Some parents said they liked the idea of using puppets to discuss the serious topic.
"As a mother, I have a small child and having been here at 9/11, you want to know how to discuss things with them," said a parent. "You don't want to scare them, but at the same time you want to be prepared. And you need to know what kind of things you need to get and how to explain it to a small child. So I think it was just wonderful."
The program was created by the Department of Homeland Security's Ready Kids and the Ad Council. Executives and officials say they hope to see the program run regularly on Channel 13's "Sesame Street."
